But more than hitting and throwing, Caleb loves being on a TEAM. I think the fun factor of talking with kids his age is his #1 motivation for being in T-ball.
This is a typical game: Caleb hits the ball. He casually jogs to a base, strikes up a conversation with the baseman from the other team and looks for Mom and waves.
When he plays in the outfield, Caleb loves being pitcher because he is in the middle and can turn around and talk with all of his teammates!
Once, Coach put Caleb on 1st Base. It wasn't long before I noticed him inching away from his base to the middle of the field, until finally, he was in the middle of a small group of red-clad, giggling preschoolers.
The Coach asked the parents to be on the field with their child for a while, so they could learn the positions. Nope. Caleb didn't want it. He told Dad that he was good-- coach would take care of it. And that was that.
Matthew and Isaac don't appreciate T-ball so much, especially since brother always ends up with a treat after the game. But Isaac claps his hands for Caleb when he is up to bat. And Matthew helps entertain Isaac, which is immensely helpful.
It's been fun to see Caleb doing something he enjoys.
