We love celebrating Christmas with the little boys. Everything is magical and joyful. They really know how to bring the Christmas Spirit.
After a whirlwind trip to Oklahoma City for Christopher's youngest brother's wedding, we arrived back in town early Saturday morning. It was Christmas Eve. Despite exhaustion, we pulled off our annual reenactment of the Nativity.
Last year Chris really emphasized the fact that Jesus is the Son of God and that Joseph was not the father of Mary's baby. Unfortunately Matthew translated this to mean that he should marry a pregnant lady. We've since had several Family Home Evenings on The Family: A Proclamation to the World. I think we've straightened that all out. This year we talked more about Santa. (:
At first Matthew wanted to play the role of Joseph, but resigned in favor of the wise man-who-gets-to-wear-a-crown. Caleb was perfectly happy to be a shepherd, especially considering he'd get a staff. He practiced a lot of moves in case anyone threatened his sheep.
Isaac was our little angel again this year. The costume still fit from last year. He loved holding our baby Jesus doll. Every time the angel needed to go give someone a message, he'd toodle out to one of his brothers, throw baby Jesus at them, and command them to "COME!"
Chris filled the role of Joseph and I was Mary by default--one of the perks of being the only girl in the household.
After the children went to bed, Chris and I broke from our traditional choice of holiday movie and opted for The Ultimate Gift (one of the few shows that can make me cry). And so, with a warm blanket and Christopher snuggled up close, we watched a show, ate some European treats from a neighbor, cried a little, thanked God for our many blessings, and held each other a little bit closer. Which was the perfect way to welcome Christmas.
